Simple Valentine’s Day activities for kids
Heart wreath
This was so much fun! Gathering supplies took very little time, and letting the kids show their creativity was so cute..
You’ll need:
Red, pink, and white construction paper
scissors
glue sticks
Ribbon
Optional: Glitter, stickers, markers, and other decorative supplies
Cut paper into hearts about the same size, glue them together in a circle, and let dry. Once dried, let kids decorate the wreaths how they’d like, then attach ribbon for hanging by punching two wholes in the top of the hearts and string the ribbon through.
Fingerprint art
For Valentine’s Day-themed crafts, use pink, white, and red paint to make Valentine’s cards, heart-shaped salt dough ornaments, or handprint trees!
Handprint I love you crafts
You’ll need construction paper in varying colors, glue, markers, and optional glitter for this craft.
Start by tracing your child’s hand. Carefully cut out the handprint, and glue the palm, thumb, pointer, and pinky fingers to the middle of a second sheet of paper. Avoid gluing the middle and ring finger to the paper.
Once the handprint has dried, let your child decorate the page how they’d like. Then, fold the 2 fingers you didn’t glue down towards the palm so the hand makes the sign for ‘I Love You’!
Paper towel roll hearts
Hold on to paper towel and toilet paper rolls for a few weeks for this craft! Gather paints, papers, empty rolls, and any other art supplies you may want to use for this craft.
Carefully fold down part of the towel roll to make a heart shape. Pour paint onto plates for dipping the towel rolls into. Dip the rolls into the paint and stamp onto the paper. Allow the paint to dry before using any other art supplies so the paint doesn’t spread.
Valentine’s word search
This craft is more suitable for older kids who can read. Here are a few cute options:
Easy, medium, and hard options
Valentine’s scavenger hunt
Create riddles, hide them around the house leading to the next clue, and send your kids on their way! Make them easier or more difficult depending on the age of your children, and watch them race around the house to find the final prize.
Heart cookies
We usually bake cookies around Christmas, but this activity also works for Valentine’s Day! This is my favorite recipe for using cookie cutters. Involve kids in the proceed by allowing them to roll out dough, press cutters into the dough, and decorate the cookies once they’ve cooled.
Heart pancakes
It’s tradition in our home to make pink pancakes colored with strawberry puree for breakfast on Valentine’s Day! Our kids love it and look forward to it every year. Once they’re old enough to climb up on a stool and pour the batter onto the skillet, they learn how to help cook. It’s a great way to boost their self-esteem and include them in our traditions.
Coloring sheets
This craft may be best for younger children, but the possibilities are endless. hearts, teddy bears, flowers, chocolates. You can find a coloring sheet for nearly anything you can think of if you search for it!
Pipe cleaner bracelets
An excellent gift exchange idea if you’re trying to avoid candy, and a fun craft too! Gather colored beads and pipe cleaners, and get creative!
Heart pizzas
Pizza Night gets a fun twist with heart-shaped dough. Roll the dough out as usual, and then bend the bottom end to make a V shape. To make the top of the heart, cut the dough about halfway down, and overlap the dough into a heart shape. Let your kids help top pizzas with their favorites and bake!

Valentine’s Rice Krispy Treats
Make your favorite Rice Krispy Treats as usual, but then shape into hearts! Drizzle with white chocolate and let your kids top with Valentine’s sprinkles or candies to add even more fun.
Heart Attacks
This is another tradition in our family that our kids love! Make hearts from construction paper in pink, white, and red, then write encouraging words and affirmations on the hearts. Then once your kids have gone to sleep, tape the hearts all over their bedroom door for a surprise in the morning!
Heart hopping game
This game is perfect for encouraging movement and making Valentine’s Day fun! Cut hearts out of construction paper in varying sizes and colors. Similar to the game Twister, call out a colored heart and have your kids hop to the nearest heart without toppling over. If they fall, they’re out! The last kid standing wins.

I hope your Valentine’s Day is full of love and fun! These simple Valentine’s day activities will keep you busy for days! Perfect for cold, gloomy days around the holiday.
