I am going to share a free printable cleaning schedule with you today. I am so excited because I made this design in Canva using our own schedule, but the best part of this download is that you can go into Canva for free and edit it to fit your schedule however you want! Edit the list, print it out, and place it on your fridge. You can also place it in a sheet protector or laminate it if you have a laminator at home. This is the laminator I have, and we love it. I can keep special projects from the kids safe, we’ve laminated our emergency contact list, and we have our master meal plan that I mentioned in my food budget post laminated and placed in our recipe binder so we can choose our meals every week as a family. Not a necessity, but I use my laminator more than I ever expected to!
Creating this free printable cleaning schedule has helped with my stress so much. We used to clean the whole house every weekend, but by the end of the day, the house was already messy again. I don’t expect an immaculate house, that would be ridiculous with how many children we have at home, but keeping things tidy has helped me get more done throughout the week. Visual noise is hard for me to handle as it causes a lot of stress. Once we implemented a daily cleaning schedule, our house stayed cleaner for longer periods of time, and we eliminated the hours of cleaning over the weekend just for the house to be messy again come Monday morning.
Why we clean daily
Keeping your home clean is important for many reasons. A clean home is not only more visually appealing, but it’s also healthier, more functional, and can even improve your mental health. Keeping a home clean can be a daunting task though, especially if you don’t have a plan in place. In this post, we’ll explore the benefits of cleaning, how to create a cleaning schedule, and how to use a weekly cleaning checklist to keep your home in tip-top shape!
Why cleaning matters
First, let’s discuss why cleaning is so important. A clean home has numerous benefits, including:
- A healthier living environment: Dust, mold, and other allergens can accumulate quickly in a dirty home, leading to respiratory problems and other health issues.
- Improved mental health: A cluttered and dirty home can cause stress and anxiety, while a clean and organized home can promote relaxation and a sense of well-being.
- Increased productivity: When your home is clean and organized, you’re more likely to be productive and focused, both at home and at work.
- Improved functionality: A clean and organized home makes it easier to find what you need, reduces the risk of accidents, and improves the longevity of your belongings. This printable cleaning schedule that I’m sharing with you today will help with all of this! Plus, when you open it in Canva and edit it to fit your schedule, it’ll be eve easier for you to use every day!
A dirty home can have serious consequences, including:
- Health hazards: A dirty home can harbor bacteria, viruses, and other harmful organisms that can cause illness. With Lucas being immunocompromised, we have to take this very seriously. His immune system is too weak to fight off bacteria and viruses like other people can, so making sure our home is clean and safe for his is crucial.
- Stress: Living in a dirty or cluttered environment can cause stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues.
- Reduced functionality: A dirty home can make it difficult to find what you need, reduces the lifespan of your belongings, and can even lead to safety hazards.
Now that we’ve established why cleaning is important, let’s talk about how to create a cleaning schedule.
How to use this free printable cleaning schedule:
To create a cleaning schedule, start by assessing your home’s cleaning needs. Consider the frequency of tasks (e.g., daily, weekly, monthly) and the time it takes to complete each task. Then, assign tasks to specific days or weeks, based on your availability and preferences. For example, you might decide to clean the bathrooms on Mondays, do laundry on Tuesdays, and vacuum on Fridays. Be realistic and flexible, and don’t forget to involve other members of your household. A cleaning schedule can help everyone share the workload and feel more responsible for maintaining a clean home. As you can see in the printable, I’ve included a spot for daily assignments. Things like laundry, trash, and sweeping are things we do on a daily basis to help keep our home safe and avoid the overwhelming pile of laundry from taking over our king-size bed.
Using a Weekly Cleaning Checklist
Once you’ve created a cleaning schedule that will work for you, keep track of your progress by checking off each assignment as you finish it. This is where a page protector or laminator comes in handy!
Having a checklist can help you stay organized, reduce overwhelm, and ensure consistency. Here’s how I use my weekly cleaning schedule:
- Download the free printable cleaning schedule.
- Customize the checklist to your needs and preferences. You might want to add or remove tasks based on your home’s cleaning needs.
- Use the checklist as a guide to complete your cleaning tasks each week. Check off each task as you complete it.
- Adjust the checklist over time, based on your changing needs and preferences. This is super convenient to do with this download. Plus, you can use the free version of Canva to edit your schedule!
To help you get started, look over the schedule that I’ve created and tweak it however you need to best serve you.
Cleaning Tips and Tricks
In addition to creating a cleaning schedule and using a weekly cleaning checklist, there are many cleaning tips and tricks that can help you keep your home clean and organized. Here are a few to get you started:
- Start from top to bottom: When cleaning a room, start at the top and work your way down. This ensures that dust and dirt from higher surfaces won’t fall onto surfaces you’ve already cleaned.
- Use a microfiber cloth: Microfiber cloths are great for cleaning because they trap dirt and dust, rather than just pushing it around. They’re also reusable and washable, which makes them eco-friendly and cost-effective. We especially love these for tile, windows, and mirrors.
- Use natural cleaners: Many cleaning products contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to your health and the environment. Instead, consider using natural cleaners like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice. You don’t need to use bleach to clean your home, I promise. If your family has been sick, I understand the desire to use bleach in a situation like this, but you do not need to regularly clean with bleach. It’s too harsh on your skin and lungs.
- Declutter regularly: Clutter can make it difficult to clean and can contribute to a feeling of overwhelm. Make it a habit to declutter regularly and donate or sell items that you no longer need.
- Involve your family: Cleaning is not a one-person job. Involve your family in the cleaning process by assigning tasks and creating a cleaning routine. Not only will this lighten the workload, but it will also teach your children responsibility and help them develop good habits. You can even use this printable cleaning schedule to create tasks specifically for your kids!
Conclusion
In summary, cleaning is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy, functional, and comfortable home. Creating a cleaning schedule and using this free printable cleaning schedule can help you stay on track and reduce the feeling of overwhelm. Remember to involve your family and use natural cleaning products for a more eco-friendly and healthy cleaning routine!
