Pros & Cons: An Honest Review of Force of Nature Cleaner

I am always looking for safer alternatives to conventional cleaning products. Since my son’s leukemia diagnosis, we have worked hard to find non-toxic alternatives and clean up the products we use in our home. Cleaning our home and killing germs to avoid unnecessary bugs is so important, but I refuse to use bleach or other harmful chemicals because they are so toxic. We often use ingredients like baking soda, castile soap, and vinegar instead. While I love these low tox alternatives, vinegar takes much longer to actually kill germs than bleach does.

First impression of Force of Nature cleaner
Natural cleaners like vinegar have been proven to have disinfecting abilities, but it has to sit on a surface for a longer period of time. While I don’t believe that we need to disinfect our homes on a daily basis, there are times when it’s necessary to kill germs, like when the flu or stomach bug makes its way through your home.
Additionally, vinegar isn’t safe on countertops like granite. It can be corrosive and ruin the seal on sealed stone, and because we have granite in our kitchen, I have to use diluted rubbing alcohol instead. When I learned that Force of Nature is safe on granite, this was a huge bonus for me, as I don’t want my children touching alcohol while it’s drying on the granite countertops.
I appreciate that Force of Nature is registered as a disinfectant with the EPA without containing any toxic chemicals. It’s important to me to have a disinfectant I can trust without panicking if my children come in contact with it.

How does the Force of Nature Cleaning System work?
The force of Nature Cleaner is strong enough to kill Norovirus, the nasty stomach virus, without using any harsh chemicals. The powerful multi-purpose cleaner is made with a capsule of salt, vinegar, and electrolyzed water. That’s it! Before we started swapping conventional products for non-toxic ingredients, I don’t know that I would have believed that we could disinfect our home without using harsh chemicals.
How do these simple ingredients make such a powerful disinfectant? Electricity! Adding the Force of Nature capsule to the electrolyzer that comes in the starter kit and turning it on allows electricity to break apart the salt and water to create hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide. The vinegar is used to achieve the right pH level.

Quick start guide

Step 1: Fill the electrolyzer appliance with tap water to the fill line.
The electrolyzer comes with a fill line, so you know exactly how much water to add. To protect the power cord’s port, ensure the rubber stopper is securely covering the port.
Step 2: add the activator capsule
The activator capsule contains the exact amount of salt and vinegar needed to create a disinfectant spray that can kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria on surfaces.
Step 3: Plug in the appliance and press the start button
Remove the rubber port cover and plug in the electrolyzer. Press the power button, and a green light will appear. The green light indicates the electrolyzer is working, and you should see small bubbles start to form in the mixture. Once the process is complete, the bubbles will stop, and the green light will be all the way around the bottom rim of the electrolyzer. This process takes about 5-6 minutes.
Step 4: Pour the disinfectant into your reusable bottle
Unplug the electrolyzer and cover the plug with the rubber stopper before pouring the solution into the spray bottle.
The bundle comes with a reusable bottle, so you can skip the single-use plastic bottles. The glass bottles are also a great option if you’re trying to reduce plastic use.
Step 5: Set the timer
One of the electrolyzer’s coolest features is its built-in timer. The disinfectant is only good for two weeks from the date you make it, so you either need to mark it on your calendar or use the built-in timer. To set the timer, plug in the device again and quickly double-click the power button. The electrolyzer’s rim should turn green. Over the next two weeks, the rim will darken, letting you know how much time you have left until you need to make more. When it’s time to make a new bottle, the rim will turn red.

I think it’s important to share the good and the bad, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do!
Pros of Force of Nature Cleaner
As I previously mentioned, Force of Nature Cleaner is a hospital-grade disinfectant registered with the EPA. It’s strong enough to kill norovirus, Influenza A, and COVID-19 without sodium hypochlorite, the active ingredient in bleach.
Force of Nature uses just three clean ingredients: salt, vinegar, and ordinary tap water. It does not contain dyes, added fragrances, or questionable chemicals.
Pet-friendly and people-friendly! You can feel safe using Force of Nature in every area of your home.
Safe on hard, non-porous surfaces. I love using vinegar because it’s affordable and non-toxic, but it’s unsafe on granite countertops because it can etch the stone. We still use vinegar in other areas of our home, but I love that I can feel safe using Force of Nature because the vinegar has been neutralized during the electrolyzing process.
Safe for the environment. Aside from the capsules, everything in the starter bundle is reusable. Plus, the capsules themselves are recyclable, a 97% improvement compared to conventional cleaners that often contain single-use plastic. It’s also Green-Seal Certified, meaning it has the highest sustainability standards for protecting human health and minimizing waste.
Septic safe.
It is more affordable than store-bought cleaners. While the electrolyzer can be a little pricy at first, the cost per ounce is around $0.09, compared to $0.13-$0.33 per ounce for other name-brand ‘natural cleaners.’
Cons of Force of Nature Cleaner
Scent. While not awful, the solution has an unpleasant scent. Very similar to a type of chlorine you’d smell at the pool. You can’t add essential oils to the mixture as it ruins the disinfecting capabilities, but luckily, the scent dissipates quickly, and you’re left with a clean home. That’s what matters most, anyway.
Time to disinfect countertops. The Force of Nature cleaner has to stay wet on the countertop for 10 minutes in order to disinfect surfaces. This isn’t far off from using something like Clorox, but it’s important to keep in mind when your goal is to disinfect.

Yes! I was so impressed by how simple it is to make the cleaning solution and what a great job it did cleaning multiple areas in our home. We’ve experienced the cleaners used in hospital settings from the many overnights we’ve had throughout my son’s cancer treatment, and they are usually filled with intense scents and strong cleaning solutions to help protect patients. What surfaces are safe?

Is it a window cleaner?
While it can be used to replace glass cleaners, I wasn’t impressed. It left streaks on my glass, so I’ll stick with my own window cleaner recipe instead.
